I would consider myself a pretty positive person. Someone that likes to see the positive side of things.
The glass is always half full. Silver linings and seeing the good in people. I'm an eternal optimist. Don't get me wrong, I have my days when I hate the world, and think people are shit and have lost all faith in humanity, especially when I read or see things in the news or on social media.
Today however, something really nice happened to me. On my way home from running my errands, I was waiting for the bus with all my bags. It was me, and then one other person - a young teenager (coulnd't have been a day over 14 or 15) - amidst a busy Danforth corner. I had bought some awkward sized items, so one bag didn't have handles, and the other bag was hard to hold because one of the contents was a long floor mat, and then the third bag was this big paper bag stuffed with throw pillows and really thing shoestring-like handles. All the bags were light, but I probably looked pretty awkward.
As the bus approached, and I awkwardly gathered my bags whilst holding my metropass in my mouth, we both started to head towards the stop, when this young chap approached me and said "would you like any help with your bags?"
Completely not taking into account that he was possibly asking me out of pity and compassion for my clumsiness, I was actually really really touched that he asked me if I needed help with my bags. Sucha simple gesture but I was heartwarmed. I thanked him and gently declined, but was happy that he has offered his help. It gave me a glimmer of hope that there is still good in the world, even if it's just from a nice teenager at the bus stop. When we are faced daily with negative (albiet important) news and events, cynicism and pessimism, it can really skew how your perception of not only the world, but how you live your life daily within it.
Just be fucking nice to each other.
Anyway - that's just a little something that happened to me today and stuck with me, so I wanted to write about it. The world isn't perfect, but if you're always looking for and finding the worst in things, then you're perpetuating the cycle and that isn't doing anyone - especially yourself - any good.
Have a good week. Do me a favour - try to do something nice for someone, anyone - whether it be on your way to work, or at work or while walking to and from wherever it is you're going. It will make you (and probably them) feel really good.
