This past July/August, there was a lot of change.
A lot of moving.
Steve and I sold the condo we lived in for just about 5 years, and moved to a new (re: old) semi-detached house in the Beaches.
My parents, sold their 27 year-old suburban home that my brother and I grew up in just outside the city, and moved up north to build their dream retirement home on the land our cottage once stood.
Shortly after we moved into our new house, my brother packed up his stuff and moved in with us to start a new and exciting gig here in the city.
Then, a week later - I moved to a new desk/area at my work (the whole department moved). So in all aspects of life, there was change and moving. Although essential party of life and growing up, it was just a lot, all at once.
As a result of my parent's move, we were fortunate to have gained a couple of things that they so generously gifted to us.
I think mainly because it would have been too much of a pain in the ass to haul it up north and store it for 4 months while their house was being built. That, and they already had things there from when we had the cottage, and they were going to invest in new.
We gained a BBQ (awesome score!), a patio set with a table and chairs (a DIY project that I will be tackling in the spring), a deep freezer (awesome, although it's currently in the basement dormant, as it currently stinks of old broccoli and needs a good deep clean. It's on the "To Do" list, I swear!), and lastly, this awesome tub/bucket chair that was once my grandparent's from the '50's.
This chair, was part of a set my Grandparent's had in their old house Scarborough, the one my Dad and Uncles grew up in. And because my Grandma had/has really good taste in furniture (re: expensive taste! There was no IKEA back then that's for sure!), it's REALLY well made. The only thing is, it needs a bit of a face lift. The fabric is the original as I remember it - multi-shades of orange striped fabric. Very retro. However there is some signs of wear and tear from over the years, so giving it a bit of TLC is needed.
I really want to take this great piece of furniture that has seen so many years, and make it a cool focal point in our living space. Give it a really modern meets vintage look. Refresh and rejuvenate. My plan is to have it re-upholstered and refreshed with some really fun and colourful fabric - maybe something with a pattern, to really make it stand out.

Our space will be grey with white trim, and pops of accent colour here and there. I really love the chevron look right now, but I'm also feeling a rich teal velvet material for this chair. To not only pop against the neutral greys (see the last picture above), but give a warm feeling to the space as well.
HOWEVER, here are some fun patterned fabrics that I'm also digging right now too that would be really great on this chair:

I'm going to be shopping around soon to get quotes for how much it will actually cost to have this chair re-upholstered. There are some really great shops/studios here in Toronto that I'm going to check out. A couple of local ones, and then a few I've read about on other home design blogs that have done some really beautiful stuff.
I will keep you posted about this fun project when the ball gets rolling on it!
