It just dawned on me, that we've been in our new house for 7 months! SEVEN MONTHS?! When did that happen? Where did the time go? Time flies when you're having fun....and all that jazz. When I think back to all the updates, projects and changes we've made, we've done quite a bit in this long/short time that we've been here! And we have so many more things planned.
This weekend was a doozy. My parents came down to visit which was nice, and on Saturday we hosted a mini fam jam with my Mum's family. It was nothing short of a fun time. Y'know, the typical FamJam.....drinks, music, living room dance party, crock pot lasagna, jam sesh, steal-a-gift game, lots of laughs, some tears..... good times.
Since my parents were down, my Dad (being the handy dude that he is) insisted on doing a few updates around the house that we needed. What a guy, huh?
This weekend's updates include the new light I mentioned in my last blog! My dad installed the new front hall light.

Here is the new light we've swapped out the old one for....half installed!
Dad adding the finishing touches
TA-DA!
All lit up!
We weren't sure if it this style was going to be too formal for the look we were going for, but it actually adds a really nice touch paired with the paint, and really lights up the space. Plus, swapping out a pendant light for a flush mount light, makes the area look larger and you know with these old homes, sometimes giving the illusion of more space is key.
Staying along the lines of lighting, we also replaced our exterior porch light. The old one had a timer on it, and only had the option for the light to stay on for 5 or 10 minutes. Which was pretty annoying - especially when we had our christmas lights plugged into it!
So Steve (the Hubs) and I picked up a new one a few weeks back, and my Dad also installed it this weekend.

Here is the old one, which doesn't look bad, it just wasn't working how it should...
See? Not too bad. Sorry for the poor photo quality - I didn't get a before picture before it was replaced. So I had to crop this one out of another photo of the front of the house. But I think you get the gist.
Here is the new one!
Not too shabby! We picked up this little beaut at good ol' Canadian Tire. I think it put us back about $40 +tax. Since we're planning on enclosing our front porch into a mudroom/sunroom, we didn't want to get anything too elaborate. We'll save that for later!
So there you have it! Two new weekend updates. Lots of light, which is handy to have since lately it's been so cold and drab outside. Hoping that sunnier and warmer days get here soon!!
