An organized nerd, but a nerd nonetheless. It's okay. I totally own my nerdiness.
What am I talking about? There are a ton of traits about me that would classify me as a nerd...I mean where do I begin?
In this instance I'm talking about my nerdy sense of organization. For as long as I can remember, I've been making lists. Grocery lists, to-do lists, personal and career goal lists.....lists galore!
I just have this need to write my thoughts down and organize them and to see them on paper....as tangible ideas and not just "what-ifs" or "maybes" floating around in my head.
I make lists at work, I make lists at home, I make lists of things I want to remember in the notes app on my iPhone on the subway commuting to work. I'm just making lists all over this city!
So naturally, when Steve and I got engaged, I went into overdrive. I not only made lists or thought about making lists, but I figured if we're going to execute the biggest party we'll probably ever throw, I better go full-throttle and get a WHOLE binder to not only make lists in, but keep notes, quotes, samples, contacts, invoices/receipts, and all that jazz.
So I did just that.
The wedding came and went, and it was one of the best days ever (I will post pictures on here a little later on) although pretty whirlwind.
And, as the story goes - we went to Costa Rica, came back, bought a house and sold our condo. We moved, unpacked and here we are! Since moving I've been - you guessed it - making lists, sending/getting emails, getting quotes/estimates for things we need/want to get done to the house. But I haven't really been keeping them anywhere or had any sense of organization to anything. So I decided to recycle the binder I used for the wedding. I've outfitted it with new dividers, and VOILA! Our new Home Renovation & Design Guide!

Nothing super fancy - most of it is from the dollar store. I made different sections for the exterior, interior, basement, quotes/estimates, contacts, ideas & inspiration, etc. I included some clear binder pockets to hold important documents like contracts, invoices, quotes and estimates, and some three-ringed lined binder paper for notes.....and of course, lists.
You can find organizer templates online too that you can print off, with pre-made checklists, templates, etc., that look prettier and are useful if you aren't really sure what to include. To be honest, I haven't really found one that I liked, but here are a couple that I have found with printable templates:

http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/home-improvement-journal-TC010364288.aspx
If I find anymore I'll post the link here, but for now I'm just going to be my turbo nerdy self and make my lists, organize my thoughts and pimp out our house to suit our taste, style and personalities. I find keeping a binder like this pretty helpful with keeping finances in check too, since when it comes to home renovation and home updating projects, money is a key player (for the most part).
Anyway - there's my nerdy post, about my nerdy love of lists and how I've reinstated this simple concept into a new hub for my home design ideas and inspirations, and a place to keep everything together, in one nerdy little package - like myself!
